Thank you for visiting Muteesa I Royal University website. We welcome you to the Research and Postgraduate School of Muteesa I Royal University (RPGS). The University offers a wide range of undergraduate programmes and  will soon be effecting Postgraduate programmes under; Master of Arts in Peace and Human rights; Master of Business Administration; Master of Education Management and Administration; Master of Arts in Mass Communication. In collaboration with Kissi University of Kenya, it will also offer; Master of Arts in Gender and Development studies; Master of Arts in Project Planning and Management ; PhD in Gender and Development studies and PhD in Project Planning and Management.

Aisha is the Director of Research and postgraduate school and a senior lecturer at the University teaching Development studies. She also teaches on the same programme in Makerere University. Aisha holds a PhD in Environmental Geography of Nelson Mandela University, South Africa; she holds a Master of Science in Development studies of London South Bank University, United Kingdom; and a Bachelor of Arts with Education of the Islamic University in Uganda.

She possesses a wide range of team-based and individual professional experience working with development partners in the public and private sector, academia and research institutions. She has toughed and made research in the fields related to environment and sustainable development; social and economic development; leadership; globalisation and development.

Aisha is a DAAD fellow; she has conducted research under the Clim-A-Net project. She has also worked on projects under the Makerere University Research an Innovation grant supported by the government of Uganda. She has strong administration experience and leadership skills having served in positions of Head of Department and Dean of Faculty, served as Academic registrar of Muteesa I Royal University. She is self-motivated with a passion for research; she has strong writing and analytical skills in both quantitative and qualitative research and looks forward to developing a team of innovative researchers and extend collaborations for the University at local and international level.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identifying sources of and solicit for funds to support research and Graduate programmes.
  • Coordinating research activities of the University and manage the research output (both electronic and print) in liaison with relevant University units to increase its visibility and dissemination.
  • Strengthening links with other Universities and research institutions/organizations on Graduate research activities.
  • Promoting and periodically review the University research agenda to reflect the priorities of the University and the Community.
  • Provide updates on completed and on-going research and publications in the University.
  • Coordinate postgraduate course development processes, organize workshops, seminars, symposia and provide support to conferences on research activities.
  • Develop the annual budget of the directorate, implementing and regularly reviewing the financial strategy for the Directorate.
  • Develop and nurture a culture of excellence in research at the Directorate and the University at large.
  • Develop policies that will sustain and enhance the conduct of research and publications at the University.
  • Manage and develop a digital academic record for research students and related staff.
  • Liaise with Deans of Faculties and relevant stakeholders to develop, review and promote the quality of the University’s postgraduate programmes.
  • Lobby for research grants and ensure effective management and use of the grants to aid research and publications.
  • Develop and maintain authors’/researchers’ intellectual property rights, copyrights rights management and other legal issues especially as they apply to primary research in various forms, in liaison with the University Library as mandated by the Legal Deposit Act.

Research Agenda


Research and Innovation is the second strategic pillar of Muteesa I Royal University whose support is critical to the university’s distinctiveness, success and sustainability in an increasingly competitive higher education environment.  As a research-centred institution of higher learning Muteesa I Royal University conducts research responsive to the socio-economic needs of society in a multidisciplinary approach.

MRU’s research agenda prioritizes specific research areas aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the National Development Plan III (NDPIII), and Uganda’s Vision 2040. This agenda serves as a guide for the university’s research activities and aims to adhere to established standards and expectations for research output that benefit society, culture and the economy guided by the following objectives:

(1) Provide a conducive environment for research and encourage staff and students to be more proactive in research and innovation.

(2) Increase and diversify the sources of research funding in order to build capacity, research quality and reputation of Muteesa Royal University Research Centre.

(3) Initiate and strengthen postgraduate training programs

(4) Promote and encourage inter-disciplinarity that fosters linkages between research and enterprise activities thereby reaching beyond the academia into communities.

The successful implementation of the research agenda is crucial for advancing knowledge, enhancing decision-making and accountability, gaining a competitive edge, and promoting personal and professional growth for passionate and engaged researchers.
