Peter works as a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Academic Success. He provides teaching, training, online resources and tutorial support in mathematics, statistics (including SPSS), ICT (including Excel and NVivo), dissertation support, quantitative research methods, qualitative research and writing for publication. Peter also provides tutorials in technical subjects to students with specific learning differences (such as dyslexia and dyscalculia).

Peter has a research and development background in secondary and tertiary mathematics education. He is a member of the Centre for the Study of Practice and Culture in Education. He also maintains an active research profile on ResearchGate.

Since 2011 Peter has led a teaching enhancement project between the University and a grammar school in Rugby under their Teaching School status involving the use of robotics in mathematics and science education for Years 10 to 13.

Peter was the lead developer on a HE STEM Programme project between 2012 and 2013 to establish a Statistical Advisory Service at the University. Following on from this Project, in 2014 he was involved in the donation of a large number of statistics educational resources to the statstutor repository.

In 2017 Peter was awarded an Erasmus+ Mobility Partnership with the University of Rwanda. He is working with two of their Centres of Excellence in academic writing and applied statistics teaching and support of their research students.

Workshop schedule

Muteesa I Royal University Research Centre aims to promote research capacity building, quality
of research methods and range of methodological skills by encouraging methodological
innovation and supporting training to build capacity in these new methods as a strategic focal
point for the development and delivery of an integrated national research and capacity building
programme through providing: 
1.   monthly research capacity building seminars and research methods training
2.   short courses in the area of survey methods and data management.
3.   An annual symposium/ conference for early career researchers from a diverse range of
disciplinary and methodological backgrounds. Therefore, invites you to attend the
upcoming 3-day blended Workshop that will be facilitated by Dr. Peter Samuels from
Birmingham City University, from 15 -17 May 2023. He will be physically present at
Muteesa I Royal University. The training program will be as follows:
15th   :    AM Supervisory relationships, time management, and stress management
                PM Data collection and preparation
16th   :    AM Qualitative data analysis using software
                PM Descriptive quantitative analysis
17th    :  AM Quantitative data analysis using software
                PM Thesis and viva preparation
N.B You will be required to install software on your computers in advance for the software
