Governance and Management of the university;

MRU is a private institution of higher learning registered as a company limited by shares as Muteesa I Royal University. Muesa I Royal University has a Board of Directors and its governance conforms to the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 with the following features.

University Council:

This is the Policy guiding and institutional oversight body. The University Council is appointed the Minister of Education of Buganda Government. The University Council is headed by a chairman and comprises of highly experienced and respected individuals drawn from both academia and other professions and civil society. The Council has several committees that conduct its businesses.

 The Senate;

The University Senate is responsible for the academic policy guidance and ensuring effective quality assurance of all academic resources and programs of the University including course curricula and examination standards. The senate comprises of heads of faculties and academic departments, senior administrative staff as well as students’ representatives.

Management and Administration;

The University Administration is headed by the Vice Chancellor (VC) who is appointed by the Chairman of the University Council and responsible for ensuring implementation of the University policies, plans and programs and day to day cost-effective institutional operations. Top management includes the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), the Librarian, the Academic Registrar, the Bursar, Dean of Students and Human Resources Manager.

Legal Status

Muteesa I Royal University is a registered company limited by share, as Muteesa I Royal university limited.  It was incorporated on 2rd June 2005 with share capital of 20 million divided into 100 ordinary shares of Ush 20,000. The Kabaka of Buganda and Katikkiro were trusted in pursuance of the memorandum of Association with the Kabaka of Buganda having 99% shares and Katikkiro of Buganda 1% shares.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
